Acupuncture based on Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the many forms of acupuncture
that has been developed and refined in the Far East for over 2,500 years. It takes
a holisitc approach and is as much about maintenance of health as it is about management
of disease. Western or Medical Acupuncture (used by doctors and physiotherapists)
is a more recent development and uses acupuncture techniques after a western medical
diagnosis. Traditional Chinese Medicine works with the philosophy that the body’s
motivating energy – known as Qi – circulates around the body via a network of channels.

During the consultation, a traditional diagnosis will be made about the nature of the disharmony and an individual treatment plan will be created. The Qi can then be accessed using fine needles inserted into the channels just under the skin to restore the body’s natural balance and feeling of wellbeing. Treatment can sometimes include massage, cupping or the burning of a traditional herb known as moxibustion.
